Fly Young Bird

The young bird stood stunned at her mom.

She had wing disease for years and laid without motion.

Mama brought home mouthwatering worms all her life.

They were moist and meaty, never slushed.

Mother bird was industrious.

But her wing gave out from the pilfer.

Her attempt to alarm others failed due to Faint Chirp Syndrome,

striking 1 in 30 birds, so her call went unheard.

There she lay on the earth..

Crooked crows stared with sorrow, telling her she’d have the same fate.

However, young bird glared at them zigzagged in the face,

until the black birds looked away in dismay.

In spirit she knew she was a separate entity from her mother,

and didn’t let the crooked crows give her a bother.

So, she bid them goodbye and shot straight up into the happy blue sky!
